Searching for an Honest Automotive Repair Shop

Finding an automotive repair shop that is honest and will provide you
with excellent service for a decent price can be difficult to find.
Finding mechanics to work on your motor vehicle that are competent and
trustworthy can take some time, but they are out there. It seems that we
are always hearing about car repair scams and it makes you wonder if
all mechanics are bad. They are not. However it may take you some time
to separate the good ones from the bad.

When you go to an automotive repair business to have your car looked
over and fixed you need to be able to trust the technicians that you
turn the keys of your car over to. You need to know that they will
perform the work that they tell you must be completed to get your car in
working order. You also need to know that they will do a quality job.
But how can you guarantee this?

One thing you can do is to look to resources that you know to be worthy
of your trust. The American Automobile Association (AAA) is one such
resource. This association keeps an up-to-date nationwide database of
car mechanics who maintain the guidelines and standards set forth by
this organization.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is another resource you can look to
because it keeps its own database of companies. Membership in the BBB is
not essential but it does work in favor of the automotive repair
business. You can also research individual auto businesses to find out
if any complaints have ever been lodged against them.

These are just two resources, but there are plenty of others online that
can be of tremendous value to you. Do a search and you may be surprised
what useful information you can find.

Not all auto technicians are certified but that does not necessarily
make them bad at their job. On the other hand, certification does not
guarantee that they will be highly competent, nor does it guarantee that
they will be honest. It would not hurt however to find out if the
service technicians have certifications from the Motorist Assurance
Program (MAP) or other organizations such as the National Institute for
Automotive Service Excellence. While certification matters, do not base
your decision on what repair shop to take your vehicle to entirely on
the certification of the mechanics that are employed there.

It may sound strange but you should do a scam search over the Internet
for any unknown companies that you have never heard of before. It is
easy to do and can save you a great deal of heartache and money. Visit a
search engine and type in the name of the company. After that, type in
something like “automotive repair scam” or “complaints from customers”
and then see what pops up on the screen. You may find nothing or you may
find a number of complaints. Be aware though that many people do not
report motor vehicle scams that have happened to them so it is possible
that customers have run into problems but have not reported it to any
authorities.
