Finally, the perfect ride for the off roadies has arrived.
Yes, we are talking about the Mahindra Thar.

The Mahindra is equipped with a CRDe unit to get you of any
sticky terrain. The chassis has been grafted from the Scorpio with a Bolero
style back. The outside looks and back foot space is a chip off the MM540 with
lots of other bits from the Bolero as well.

The looks are really unique with a never seen before chunky
tyres, fiery wheel arches and a chrome bull bar. The Thar is surely a one of
its kind. However the inside’s still the same with the Bolero style dashboard,
steering and the window winders. Even the poor ergonomics are running with the
Thar as well. The low selector drive option, manual seat adjustment, and a non
AC all ensure that the Thar can be a testing place to be seated with more than
two passengers or for the long runs.

The Mahindra is simply strong with a torque of 25.18 kgm
enough to take over to new levels and even the steepest of climbs. The ground
clearance is a neat 200mm to bypass the most uneven disturbances along the
road. All this raw power is more than enough to conquer any slush, bump, steep
terrain but the presence of a limited slip differential or lockable front and
rear differentials would have made this the ultimate terrain beast.

The Thar hits the century speed mark without any effort at
all and 138 kph is just a patience away. With separate spring for the front and
back the Thar is not a wobbly - wobbly experience but still not quite stable at
high speeds. However the Thar rarely gives you bumps and is a tough rider on
any condition. The Thar 2489 cc engine, with 105 bhp is well covered there is
less noise with the MM 540 body.

This off road monster can also make up for a nice zigzag in
the city streets. The five speed manual transmission takes some practice to get
used to but is tough enough to take numerous bangings. It zips the 100 kmph in
just 17.05 sec and is easily zapped by the powerful brakes.

The Thar is not for the normal man. It is a raw beast but
misses the refinement. The cost of 5.99 lakh should also not be a spot of
bother. With the clear aim of being a rough rider, the Thar knows its USP in
spite of a few flaws.

What you'll like in the new Mahindra Thar:

•             Raw
jeeping. Rugged style and looks

•             Powerful
engine, transmission and body

•             Top power

•             Zippy

What you won't like in the New Mahindra Thar:

•             Low
quality interiors, looks and sharp edges give a poor effect

•             No AC or
hard top makes it a occasional guest for use

•             High
maintenance cost

•             Poor
rider comfort
