Types of lubricant that you use in your vehicle is determined by the
engine and climate. Although there are several different types of
product available, you should first look to your auto manufacturer for
help to determine which product you should use. The recommended type of
lubrication is located in your owner's manual. The manufacturer will
recommend the type of lubricant that will help your vehicle run more
efficiently. People may think that using the wrong lubricant is a small
matter, but it can result in the need to buy a new engine for your
vehicle. If you make an error, all may not be lost, because a variety of
viscosities are sometimes allowed. Do not make a habit of using
incorrect lubricant in your vehicle. Some lubricants, simply cannot do
the job well for your vehicle. This is true if you use an improper
lubricant during extremely hot weather. Your vehicle may get too hot and
the lubricant may do little good to keep your parts lubricated. In this
case, your vehicle can experience issues common to vehicles that have
old lubricant or those that do not have enough lubricant. You may
experience engine problems.
It is sometimes recommended that you replace the type of lubricant
used in your vehicle based on the temperature. A qualified mechanic will
make sure that the correct lubricant is used in your vehicle. Keep in
mind that there are special types of lubricants that are designed for
older models. The mechanic and your user manual may also make
suggestions for lubricants that should be used in extremely hot or cold
temperatures. Ask your mechanic questions related to the recommended
type of lubricant and the cost, because your oil change may cost more if
you ask for more expensive oil.
In addition to choosing the correct type of product, a good mechanic
will clean spilled product from your vehicle. The smell of burning
lubricant cannot be mistaken. Your mechanic should also make sure that
the cap is securely replaced on the vehicle. The product can leak out of
the car without your knowledge if the cap is not replaced in certain
models. Imagine driving long distances, thinking that your vehicle is up
to par after an oil change, only to find out that your cap was not
tightening on your vehicle, and your car is not lubricated as
recommended.
It is important to have your vehicle
serviced at a mechanic shop that you trust. When you take your vehicle
to a mechanic with whom you are unfamiliar, you run the risk of
receiving poor service and being unable to rectify the situation when
you finally determine the problem. Although you may have no choice but
to have your vehicle serviced if it breaks down unexpectedly while you
are on the road, do your best to take your vehicle to a qualified and
experienced mechanic, rather than having it serviced at the first shop
that you find. A random shop may use the incorrect products in your
vehicle during your oil change or the personnel may not complete the job
 properly.
